Play with real blooms, study the textures, light and shadow. Illustrate your own bloom with watercolour and take home your window-framed piece of artwork. You will learning the basics of drawing flowers – shape, form and perspective and the techniques of water-colour. Learn how to have it window-mounted perfectly. Magic doesn’t exist but practice and time does – expect to be able to paint and illustrate a simple bloom or stalk for a start.
Materials to take home include watercolour paper, sketching paper, a watercolour set, 2 brushes, a watercolour bucket, mounting board, pencils and erasers.
What is Botanical art/illustration?
The main goal of botanical illustration is not art, but scientific accuracy. It must portray a plant with the precision and level of detail for it to be recognized and distinguished from another species. The need for exactness differentiates botanical illustration from more general flower painting. – quote
Therefore the class is titled “Modern Botanical Art”; where it’s more about expressing your creative side, exaggerating the beauty of the flower rather while keeping the painting techniques of Botanical art.
I’m a beginner, can I still sign up?
Of course! We will be learning right from the basics of the shapes and forms of flowers. My husband was my guinea pig, he did fantastic without any drawing knowledge at all 🙂
What will you be teaching?
We will do a quick run through the entire (boring & technical) process of Botanical art. But we will be focusing on the fun part – which is drawing flowers, with blooms as our reference and watercolour painting techniques.
Class details por favor!
